Hiwdy y'all. I have a 1996 Wellcraft Excell 21sx. My dad bought it new. It needs some love. Starting with seats. The B's lay flat helm seats are toast. I want to replace with pedestal cptns chairs. The decking feels solid. Anything special needed to be done mounting to the floor? Also, I have astioperorsis(so?) Ballin at 36. My back has broken vertabret from standing falls. Is a "shock absorbing)" pedstal worth it? Tia.

Why are the seats in such bad condition? It the boats been out in the elements for an extended period of time then more than likely your 23 year old boat has a lot more issues than just the seats. I'd advise a Thorough investigation into her structural condition before investing in seats.

Pedestal seat bases screw into your (3/4"?) plywood floor, if solid. But mind Woodonglass's caution.

I've got back problems aggravated by chop and wave bouncing. I bought a pair of Springfield "EZ Ride" cushioned pedestals - available here at iBoats. Big benefit. But they will set your seat height about 3" higher than a solid pedestal, and ??? much higher than your folding seat. I tweaked my driver's pedistal by moving it rearward, but I still have to tilt the steering wheel full up to get under the wheel.

Just glass a properly sized sacrificial piece of wood to mount the pedestal to. Screw it into that, not the deck.
