new shift inerupt switch- extra hardware?

just bought and installed a new quicksilver shift interupt switch and it had 2 plastic cylinders with springs inside that look like one should mount next to the upper shift cable, the other? i had one on as described and it would kill the motor when i shifted into reverse, but without it on shifting was fine. what are those for and do i need them?

And the engine is..... with a .... drive built in 19....

I've seen your signature and that doesn't help either.....

Even the part number of the new assembly would be useful....

achris, if the out drive on the boat in my sig was any different than suggested by my sig i would have said so- as for the qs # is 864363a 1

The reason I asked is because you have 2 engine packages in your signature... Yes, I know one is Merc and the other is Volvo and you bought a quicksilver part.... But Quicksilver also make parts for Volvo, and you list the year of the boats, not the engines, hence my uncertainty.... I would rather ask an 'obvious' question than assume something incorrect.... and I think you would prefer it that way too...

So, the extra parts in the Quicksilver kits are a common thing. They make up the kits to cover a variety of different applications....

Stalling the engine when shifting to reverse is a common symptom of a failing shift cable.... Since it is doing it only with the shift assister indicates the problem is only just beginning....

New shift cable time....

Volvo's don't have shift interrupt switches.

I know NOTHING about Volvos... including that... That's why I ask for clarification...

im just going to assume that those are parts for a different app, without them the switch seems to work as intended. the old switch didnt have anything like those on it but it was the old style with the roller lever.
