New speakers bigger than old

Just purchased new stereo and speakers and the speakers are slightly larger than the old. Recently had carpet replaced and do not want to damage it. What would be the easiest way to cut holes larger without pulling carpet off? Thanks for any ideas.

Jigsaw with a fine tooth blade will work fine as long as the carpet was glued down. You don't want to use a dremel or rotozip - anything that spins will wind up with carpet fibers.

Or cut the carpet first with a razor knife to the correct diameter. Remove and then cut the fiberglass.

I was thinking the same thing guys. Gonna cut the carpet to correct size and use my jigsaw. Should be fine. Thanks for the advise.

When you are done run over here and get mine, I am in the same boat so to speak.

Finnaly got another pair of Rockford speakers and they are just a scosh too big, probably get it tommorow.

Same with me- the Boss speakers are just a tiny bit bigger, but my 3 lb. hand sledge hammer should do the trick. Seriously, the speakers will fit into the hole, but they protrude farther in the rear than the old ones did.

Why is this a problem? Because some genius at Four Winns cut the speaker hole about an inch too far to 'the left', where the rear of the speaker interfered with a vertical wooden support. Looks like he/she then used a chisel on the support to carve out a little room for it. Now I need to get in there with a recipro saw and carve out another inch.

Can anyone explain why every little thing becomes a full-scale project? I won't even go into what it took to replace the surface-mounted trumpet horn on the foredeck. Piece of cake, right? HAH!
