Hi
I just got me my first boat, with a Chrysler motor on it.
But there is only manual start.
So i got this starter from Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/171216605512...&sojTags=bu=bu

I could use some technical help regards to how to install it.

What do I need other than the starter ?
Cable size
Solenoid
Start button

How to connect it all

Other stuff..

Thanks
Joe

Welcome Joe, IDK, there is a thread on here that explains it perfectly.You-tube may have a video explaining it.
It seems hard to me, there's lots of parts and costs. If theres anyway you can keep the manual start, I would, less to break.
This is a no brainer for this forum ,but a lot of back and forth effort on both sides, are you ready put forth some effort on your side. , for example, how do you know this is the correct starter, of a long list of parts you need.

Hi
Im pretty sure its the correct model.
Its 1972 model and 45 HP, and according to the ebay page the starter I got is a retrofit.

What I would like to know is how many amps this retro starter needs.

When I know that, I can start figuring out size of cables and solenoid.

So if anyone knows the amps on a 45HP Chrysler starter ?

You probably will have trouble finding the parts to make it electric start
Start looking at marine salvage yards.
Valley sales in Prudenville, Mi has a ton of older stuff, maybe he can help??
You will need the : starter bracket, wiring loom with switch/key, solenoid, #4 cables, and more.

No Title

A few points and Pics:

1. Does this mean you will have an alternator/generator to charge the Battery? I have electric on my 1970 35 HP Chrysler w/o charging system. I charge with a charger approx every 5-6 fishing trips.

2. I fill my system is as yours could have been. I can manually start if my battery goes down.

3. Post some good Pictures showing where your starter will fit (engine block to flywheel).

4. A Clymer Manual at the least should help you. A good reliable marina if they will touch an engine that old.

5. I fill you have a good challenge unless you just use the starter and a battery to ?Simply Jump Start? the engine.

Thanks for all the good replies.

Wickware, do you know or could you measure how many amps your starting motor pulls when it rotates ?

How many amps is your 12V battery ?

My unit is in storage now and Pics are from over the years from 1984. My Clymer manual shows good diagrams but no Amps. From a glance the starter motor system info does not get into amps.
