So i got a new starter for my 99 sea ray with merc 3.0l. I was wondering if there was anything i could spray inside it while i have it off to help protect from rust, and corrosion. something like WD-40 but that will last longer.

Thanks for your time.

Nope,... It would probably do more harm than good anyways....

just keep the bilge pumped so's the starter don't go swimmin'....

ok. i replaced the bilge float and the pump works great. Hopefully i wont get much water in there. is it advisable to wash down the lower part of the engine after a salt water run?

I boat exclusively in salt water. Like mentioned, nothing is recommended to be sprayed inside the starter. And if things get submerged, then there is nothing that can be done to save them.

However...

I like to periodically spray everything down with CRC corrosion inhibitor. I spray the entire outside of the engine and various components. It puts a honey colored film or coating on the metal and really helps keep the corrosion down. Especially good on the oil pan, etc, that gets a regular dosing of salt spray and splash.
