Before i put the new $275 Stator in, i don't believe i have seen an explanation of why these things go bad. Are there any test i should make to make sure that i don't fry this one like the last (new motor to me, wasn't running due to "electrical problem")?

Thanks.

The original 1973 stators were notoriously bad on the V4 engines. The potted green replacement stators were much better. You can still kill them with a bad rectifier.

Thanks guys, i appreciate your advice. The Stator that i am replacing was green, and so was the goo that coated my timer base! I am replacing the rectifier even though it tests fine since the insulation on the red wire is dry rotted off. If i wasn't getting the 150V from the Rectifier to the Pack, then there is no way i would get any spark, right?

The rectifier is just there to charge the battery and help send a signal to the tachometer. The engine will start and run fine without it. When the rectifiers go bad, they sometimes allow the battery voltage to reach the ignition system which can damage a stator or other ignition components.

What i meant to ask in the previous post was "If i wasn't getting the 150V from the Stator to the Pack, then there is no way i would get any spark, right?"

Did you do a spark test?

Are you using a DVA tester?

Did a spark test using store bought tester, nothing at all :( Have DVA tester. I feel better after reading your post that by repacing the much cheaper Rectifier i reduce the risk of smoking the Stator. Maybe the missing insulation around the red wire on my existing Rectifier passed some excess current to the charging coils? It still passes the ohm test, but i don't want to take a chance.
