I just bought a new vcr and it replaced a 10 year old vcr. I reciently spent 150 to fix it and only spent 60 to replace the original. Does anyone fix thier original equipment?

Re: New stuff

I try to fix everything I own. I do not always succeed, but I try.
I am at about a 75% rate of success.
Sometimes I will buy(at a real low price) things at garage sales that are broken, just so I can see if I can fix them.

Re: New stuff

I have fixed my sons Play Station 2 many times. Most of the times the door where the CD slides in and out get a little piece broken off, have glued and reglued it. The last time I just took the top off the whole thing, now you have to manually load the CD in the top and put the round magnet on top to hold the CD from flying out  . He thinks it’s kinda neat; tell all the “Dudes  ” he has a convertible PS2 now.
I have fixed/rigged many electronics in the past.

Re: New stuff

Most electronics are disposable nowdays unless they can be rigged for nothing. They are definatly not worth spending money for repairs today because they are most likly obsolete within a couple of weeks after purchase anyway.

I talked to a tv repair guy last year he told me he wont take the cover off a tv for less than 100 bucks, reel right everthing you buy is disposable or not fixable for that reason.I try to fix my stuff but tvs vcr and dvd there just not worth it.

What ever it is before I get a new one I try to fix the old. I have gas a heater in my shed that needed the porcelan replaced. The piece I needed plus the shipping came within ten bucks cost of a new one. We are a throw away society. Got the new one kept the old for parts.

I fixed my TV for 10 bucks (had to soldier a new chip and resister in the board).

I dont even bother taking things to be fixed, most of them aint worth it.

I think if the trans died in my car, Id just buy a new/used one cause the cost of the trans would be more than a new/used car would cost.

Ken

The only things worth getting fixed these days are vehicles and houses. Even then I do it myself, otherwise you just get raped.
