I've bought a 2006 250hp Evinrude that came with a key switch and tack.
The switch has a plug connection that fits in the wiring harness, easy.
The tack has a plug and three wires Red, Pink, and White.
Since the key switch doesn't have a wire hot wire to power the gauges, I'm asuming that the power comes back through the harness into the tack and one of the three wires is the hot for the gauges? If so which, RED,PINK,or White?
And what are the other two for?
The switch in the pic is the old one. The tack on the left is new and see the three wires.

Please help!

The three Tach wires are for 12V power, ground, and the sender wire from the engine. Looks like it has a separate wire for gauge illumination.

I'm going to take a wild guess: red = 12V, white = ground, pink = send. Might have to use process of elimination. When you get the 12V and ground hooked up right, the needle should go to zero when the key is turned on.

Does the keyswitch not have an accessory terminal marked "A", hot when the key is "on"? The traditional color for switched accessory power (including gauges) would be purple, and would attach to the red tach wire.

The gray wire coming through the harness is the tach sender wire.

Black is ground and normally attaches to the smaller of the "M" terminals on the keyswitch. Other M terminal would have black/yellow kill wire.

If that tach is for an inboard engine, it won't work with your outboard. If it has a selector switch, set it to "6p".
