hello,<br />i am new to boatingg and i am going to buy a 14' fiberglass runabout/fishing boat with a not going mercury 50hp 3cyl blueband engine on a 2year old professional built gal trailer. can anyone please tell me how to find out how old the engine is and what i need to check/do/findout when buying a used boat from a private seller.<br /><br />thanks :D :cool: <br />The T.G!

post the serial number and we might be able to run the year down<br /> ck for cracks in hull underneath and below water line ck for soft spots in the floor and ck the transom over real good<br />there will prob be others along to add to this

Have a knowledgable experienced boater check it over with you.<br /><br />Also, don't pay any money for the not running engine, unless you personally know what is wrong with it. Don't take the sellers word for it.<br />If it was cheap and easy to fix, the seller would have fixed it, as this would increase its selling price.
