My girlfriend purchased a camp on a great bass lake last Aug. (everyone should have a girlfriend like this!) It was obvious that I needed a bass boat and purchased a 1991 Cajun 17-1/2' FISH-n-SKI with a Yamaha 115 2-stroke, same year as boat. (please no jokes about when my mom will let me have a REAL bass boat) Not being a boat owner before, but a motor head for many years, I understand the inportance of yearly maintainance. I'm just not sure where to start, and I have no documentation on the motor ie. parts breakdown or instruction manual. The season starts soon and would like to be ready. Can someone give me a place to start?

You can view your owners manual here. iboats has service manuals and most service parts. You can view an exploded diagram of your engine here.

Re: New to boating

where it mine purchased with NO maint history here is a quick rundown.
test spark and compression.
check and change the gear oil, replace the water pump kit, replace the pressure control valve grommet, replace the thermostats.
that pretty much does the cooling system.
then I would replace the fuel pump and rebuild the carbs and add a 10 micron water seperator if its not allready been done.
if its a precision blend(oil injected) model I would remove the remote tank and change the filter.
then with the remote tank at least half full I would turn the key on with the engine OFF and remove the vynil water trap from the engine tank and drain it into a container.
your looking for water or sludge.
allow the tank to drain.
as soon as the alarm sounds reinstall the water trap.
the transfer pump will run 180 seconds, all 3 bars on the digital tach will flash and the engine oil tank should refill and transfer stop within the 180 seconds.
look at all clips for throttle, magneto control and oil pump lever.
they crack and break sometimes but will give months of warning before they break if you look.
now you will have a well maintained rig with the alarm system tested and ready for play.
