I recently purchased a 1983 Renker I/O with a 2.5L GM Motor, that had been under a canopy for about 4 years. After I attempted to put oil in the foot I noticed 2 days later that there was a leak. Upon further inspection I discovered behind the prop, a open cavity, through which I could see the foot oil. I noticed there are two tapped holes with no bolts, and what appears to be a worn gasket on it. It looks like some sort of gasketed plate goes there, but it was not with the boat. I have no idea what I am doing. Could I be right about the plate needing to be there? It is located directly behind the prop and spacer. If there is a plate, what would it be called so I can locate a replacement?

I'm about to give it up for the night, but if you want some outdrive information, here is a link to the Merc Alpha service manual. Go to the index and watch your cursor as you move it over the index. you will see where the different sections are.

Merc Manual

Terry, you'll need a digital camera > take a pic > put it on your harddrive > register with a picture hosting site (many of them are free - like this one 'photobucket.com') > upload your picture to your newly created cyberspace photo album > post a message on this site > click on "Full reply form" at the bottom of this page > click on "image" > insert the URL where your pic is being hosted - done!

And welcome to i-boats!!

Aldo
