Hey guys!...new here , been reading quite a bit...up to page 130! Figured I'd best sighn up as I am the new owner of a 1975 Bassrunner with a 45hp Chrysler. Havn't had a boat for 2o yrs. but I'm now retired after 42 yrs. in the power sports industry. Time to go fishing! And any outboard over 15 hp is all new to me! Being a lifelong Mopar nut...naturally my next boat HAD to be a Chrysler! I'm the second owner! It wouldn't keep running in a bucket...so I got it cheap. Already pretty much know the problem. But I may have some questions! Boat and motor both look like new. Anyway,now that you've been warned....carry on! Steve

I have a 1970 35 hp Chrysler I purchases in 1984. It Has bean a dream. All has worked good with very few service needed. This Board?s help and a Clymer Manual have helped me when needed. My 35 hp should be the same as your 45hp and up to some 55 hps (except for piston bore and stroke if no mistake). I have plenty Pictures of basic motor services (linkages, ignition, lower unit and Etc.)
What seems to be the issue that causing it not to keep running in the barrel? I hope it?s a deep barrel with the motor as deep as it can go in the barrel (to keep some good water going through the motor while running).

Do you have any History on the motor?s past such as:
1. When did it run good last, was it stored with Stabli or Etc fuel treatment or run Bone Dry to store?
2. When were the points under the flywheel checked last and all tuned (carb, plugs ignition)?
3. When was the motor?s lower unit service last with a new impeller and fresh oil and no leaks?

Won't be picking boat up until We'd...but yes it was run deep in a barrel! BUT...He wired in a new switch and had a wire left hanging! Guess which one? Choke didn't shut! I didn't say a word! Hasn't been used in a year and a half....so I suspect it will need a fuel pump and fuel system clean. I was a service tech all those years, but never anything bigger than small fishing motors. Honda certified, with some Chrysler automotive certification also. I finally retired so I didn 't have to do this all day...HA! I'm sure I can figure it all out... just need to restart the thought processes! A guy can't just sit around you know! Just not real familiar with some of these systems. So I just keep reading through the threads. I already know more than before I found this site. There's some sharp cookies on here marine wise!
