I have always owned boats and never a PWC, I recently bought one and was hoping to get some help. I might sound like a total fool/tool here asking but I figure oh well worse can happen. I have ordered a manual for my 03 FX140, but until it gets here I have a question.

1) what is a flush kit for a PWC? Is is it something you hook a hose then you connect to the PWC? You know something similar to muffs?
2) Any maintenance things I should know about....other than plugs, oil, filter, winterize? Or pretty much the same as I will/do do for my 115HP Ooutboard?

Thanks for the help.

flush kit, yep, just what you guessed!

as far as maintenance, you REALLY need to follow the procedures in the manual, especially for winterization in freezing climates. Really nothing like an outboard, much more like an I/O because of the water passages in the engine and exhaust.

also, changing oil is somewhat of a pain compared to an outboard, but it is something you want to do yearly. Replacing bearings due to rust is a bigger pain!

like stated before, yep. be careful when starting on land. the sequence of turning on the water is reverse that of a i/o or o/b... ya start fist, then turn on the water. then turn off the water then stop the engine.

yep, just follow the service manual. ya just can't go wrong if ya follow the instructions...

as for the oil changes. a oil siphon type oil changer works real well. from memory (i could be off, been a while since i had a fx140, read the s/m it'll give ya the facts) best way i found to test my oil when i had one was to be on the lake, give it the 5 min warm up at 5k rpm or whatever the s/m dictates. then check. that was the only reading that i felt was the proper reading on the stick. the oil level reading will vary much depending on when you do the check.. generally speaking ya might keep an eye on the level too. mine used oil from day one and i got it with 0.0 hrs on the clock when i got it too... if i remember right, around a 150hrs oil consumption went down. but it still used oil (only thing that really disappointed me about the ski even though i know 4 stokes do use some oil normally)... might have been my particular ski though..

Where or how is the flush kit installed? Where does it plug into?
As stated I have never seen a PWC using a flush kit.....thanks
