Ok, here we go. recently dowbnsized from a 248 wellcraft sportsman w/ twin mercruisers.
Just bought a lil 16 foot center console. It has a 60 hp Mariner on it. Ser# L 305527. It is a two cylinder , carb style, 2 stroke, electric choke & start.
from the SER#, can anyone tell me what year it is?
Also, its 2 stroke, but nothing on the engine saying what the mix/ratio is. Any one know this .. ????
As its been years {10** since I was being pushed around by an outboard, and this is a first "Mariner" any info on these engines would be of great help.
Just picked it up, runs great on a hose connection, water trial as soon as the reg /papers come back.
Im ordering the manual, add that to the long list of manuels i have boyught over the years.
Was told that Yamaha Japan made these engines. Is that correct? It does have a "JAPAN" stamp on it.
Again, any input is appriciated.

There should be some letters/numbers in front of the s/n and for the 60, that might be 675 or 6F0. Could you please check and let us know?

Yes, some of these engines were built for Mariner by Yamaha.

675 precedes the serial number. they are printed on the plate.

That s/n comes up as:

Re: new to "Mariner" with a few questions..

apriciate the help. I am at least a week away from getting it wet, so no rush on the manuel. thanks for the link, but the manuel is ordered and should arrive in 6 days.

We are removing the front closed bow area, and installing a few ribs, and flooring. past that, the engine will get a lower unit fluid change, pull old prop to get size, and order a spare prop. then its a simple fuel pump out, new fuel filter and lines, new plugs, install a water seperator, grease a few fittings, and it should be ready to do a shake down run.
Ill let you know how that goes....

You should install a new water pump impeller.
