Got a few questions if anyone can help.
I bought this boat from my uncle, it's been sitting for about 3 years, with little or no care before or after being parked. Needless to say it's not running.
He didn't have an owners manual or engine manual. I've been able to find the owner's manual through Four Winns, but not the engine manual. Anyone know where I can get one?
The motor is supposed to be a Volvo 3.0 GS, but the engine plate states Mercruiser.
It won't start, the battery is good, it won't turn or over or even click at the starter, (but is getting voltage), what would be a good starting point for troubleshooting?
What type of oil/fluid does the trim/tilt mechanism take?
What viscosity oil does it use? The plate on the engine says SAE 40, the filler cap says 10w30.
Is the anything besides the water pump I need to replace before running, (assuming I can get it running)? The exhaust bellows and the bearing between the engine and drive were replaced just before it was parked.
Any other advice or help would be appreciated. This is my first stern drive, I've owned only outboards prior to this.
Thank You in advance!

Gotta figure what you have.
Pics of the motor and the drive.
Most use 10-30/ 5-30
The 3.0 Volvo is the same block as The Mercruiser.
Most marine motors are GM some older ones were Ford even Chrysler.
Try wiggling the shifter as you try to turn it over.

Troubleshooting, test light at the hot lead on the starter.
Then at the yellow/red lead on the solenoid.
Like I suggested, PICS!!

On the quick reply there is a button, and if you hover your mouse over it, it will say "insert image".
Then find the file wherever you have it stored on your computer (in jpg format).

I tried that, but it keeps giving an upload error. Maybe the pics are too big?

The pics were too large, got it figured out!
I got the engine turning, should have checked the fuses first. Circulation pump was frozen though, got a new one on order. I'm replacing the thermostat, impeller and rebuilding the carburetor. There were a couple of other minor issues, but nothing too bad.
I noticed the fuel pump was not pumping, think a new one is a good idea or is there something I need to check on this one?

Boat is running. I've replaced the circulation pump, impeller, thermostat and all the associated seals/gaskets. Carb and starter have been rebuilt, new fuel pump. Changed the oil and plugs. She fires right up and idles just fine. Temperature is hovering around 170. No apparent leaks anywhere. Drive shifts smoothly and gear oil is good. The only thing not working is the tach and voltmeter, (the alternator is working). Is there anything else I need to look for or do before taking it out on the water?

Looks as if someone swapped the rocker/cam cover for a Mercruiser one. Check the earth/grounding points for the instruments, put a 12volt supply directly across the volt meter to see if it works, could be frozen if boat hasn't run for several years. Just get her in the water and have fun.

Have you empty the fuel tank and refill with fresh gas or still on a 3 years old gas?

The old gas and cleaning the tank were some of the first things I did, while waiting on parts. I ran it yesterday for a couple of hours. It seems to be running a little warm, (180/190), at cruising speeds. The carb is a little rich as well, but nothing blew up or out so I did make it back to the landing....
