New to me '68 18hp Evinrude

Hey folks,<br /><br />My first post so bear with me. I just purchased a boat with the above stated motor. Serial# 18803M. Not too familiar with outboards but am confident that I can do most of the work on it if needed. <br /><br />I have a service manual coming in the mail, and plan on doing most of the work myself. <br /><br />What would you folks suggest for me to do to the motor before I fire it up. Service and preventative advice mostly. Or any other suggestions.<br /><br />Thanks and maybe next time I'll have a more specific question.<br /><br />JR
