I recently purchased a 1995 Regal 202SC. It's powered by a 4.3L LX Mercruiser. S/N OF361057. I received minimal maintenance records with boat. Boat and engine are in good condition.

Some questions I have are:
What is the hp? I can't find it listed anywhere.
What maintenance should I do prior to starting the boating season? Got slip, I hope to put in here in spring and not have to pull out till fall.
What oil should I run? Type and brand. Only use in fresh water here in PA.
How often between plug and wire changes? Calendar and hours
Where is the best place to get Mercruiser parts on line?

I was planning on the following:
Oil change - engine and lower unit
Impeller change
Thermostat change
Belt change - all belts
Cap and rotor

Please let me know your thoughts.
Thank you,
Paul

Plug wires can be ohm'ed to see how they're holdin' up...

The Oil question,..?? I run Mobil 1, 15W-50...
You can run 'bout Any oil ya want, it's a Hot topic of debate,...
A search here should bring up Weeks of readin'...

Re: New To Me Boat

The MCM 4.3 LX Propshaft Horsepower Rating is 175 HP.

From the service manual, Crankcase Oil,
To help obtain optimum engine performance and to
provide maximum protection, we strongly
recommend the use of Quicksilver 4-Cycle Marine
Engine Oil. If not available, a good grade, straight
weight, detergent automotive oil of correct viscosity,
with an API classification of SF or SG, may be used. Depending on ambient air temperature use (SAE 30W or 40W SH or CF/CF)
The following chart is a guide to crankcase oil selection. Oil filter should always be changed with oil.
In those areas where recommended straight weight
oil is not available, a multi-viscosity 20W-40 (SF or
SG) or, as a second but less preferable choice,
20W-50 (SF or SG) may be used.

Here's your engine parts for you to look at.:)

Good luck.

Re: New To Me Boat

while i do use mercruiserparts.com, to find oem part numbers, if were gonna get some aftermarket parts though. i'd use iboats. they are the ones after all that bring us this fine forum. support them when they got what ya need. and they got a lot of stuff to fill your needs too.

myself, i try hard not to buy glm parts. the stuff i have got the quality contol didn't seem good enough for me. compared to oem parts.
