So I came to the realization that my 12' seaking is to small for 2 large guys fishing with an outboard and fuel. Boats rated capicity is 550lbs.
So I purchased a 1957 Crestliner 14' to fix up.
Well this boat is rated for upto 35hp so I figured something larger than my 7.5 fleetwin would be nice.
I purchased a 1956? Evinrude lark 30hp with controls.
This engine has an electric start. If I understand correctly, this engine does not have a charging system. Is that correct?

That is correct.

Those are solid motors! Did you get the small door cowling cover on the front? It covers the knobs and choke pull and is often missing.

No I did not.
I also have a frozen '55 big twin 25. My new engine looks like it uses some of the same parts so hopefully I have a parts engine.

Yep, the '55 Big Twin 25 and the '56 30 share many parts. Major differences are internal - pistons, cylinder head, porting, etc...

Re: New to me Evinrude Lark

Well I cleaned the carb, everything looked as if it had been replaced aready, heck even the coils look like replacements.
I got her fired up, now I need to do the lower unit seals and impeller.

Did these engines come with an elecrical box? Some where for the starter solenoid to mount?
I do not have a key switch or choke control. Anyone know of part numbers I need for these?
I do not have a stater solenoid either. I imagine one from a lawn tractor would work and possibly the key switch from said lawn lawn tractor..

Lastly, the plastic ends on the control cables, are replaceable?

Thanks,
Steve

marineengine.com, look up your particular engine for parts diagram/numbers.

Save yourself a headache and get marine-specific solenoid and switch.

There is no charging system, but it isn't really a necessity since you can start it probably a hundred times on one charge.
The system, if original, is 6 volt, so you may want to see about reducing voltage to the choke solenoid. The starter will be fine if you don't overdo it. You shouldn't if it's tuned and starting like a 50's OMC should.

Get yourself a sierra starter solenoid here at iboats for about $15.

There was a box to mount to the transom but it pretty much had the solenoid and wire terminals inside it. I mount my solenoid under the cowl.
You can easily make yourself a wiring harness for it that will work the starter and choke, and I think it would be wise to rig up a kill switch as well.

I don't know about the cable ends, but new cables can still be purchased relatively cheaply.
Good luck and nice motor!

The mtrs back in those days used what OMC called "long life" cables and the ends were replaceable on them. See your local Evinrude dlr and have him look into his P&A book.
