Hello all, great site and nice boats. This is my first boat, other that the car topper I sold. My little family is getting old enough for camping(not just hiding in the shade with babies) and water sports, so I found myself a nice bow rider boat. From what I've found on the ID plate and off the internet its a '76-'77 Larson Manta 175 with a 80 hp Merc. The boats in fair shape for its age but will need some cleaning and fixing, like the two back-back seats have two different styles of apolstery and are not attached to the boat, the bow seats are rotten, the top is missing. I'm thinking its going to get a coat of blue paint in the spring. I was tossing around the idea of having two swivel seats and two bench seats along the sides in the back instead of the back-back seats. Any ideas or comments are welcome, Thanks... and yes there will be pictures(just need a day off to take them):D

Re: New to me Larson

Do you plan on building you own seats. If so you might want to check out my thread from time to time. I am just beginning the process of learning to sew vinyls upholstery in preparation for making bench seats for my 62 Flamingo. Also my signature has a link for uploading pics from your PC or you can open a PhotoBucket account and use it.

Make sure to size your pics to 640 x 480 no matter which method you decide to use.

I'm just sayin...:D

Yes I do plan on building my own seats, I was thinking the same style as the bow seats with a little storage under the base.

JK!! I love mine great boats. mine is stored outside and ive only had it for a few years but its an 86 and i went to do the transom this year and the only rotten part on it was due to the previous owner not sealing the motor bolts correctly.. their tough boats.

Probably Kootenay Lake... Unless if course you can point me at some sure fire lunker rainbows.

I'm looking at doing my maiden voyage down there next year for some r & r and hitting a deeper lake where I'm not going to bottom out in the shallow lakes around here. The water levels are so low around here you pretty much have to carry the boat off the launch.

I'm looking for a good launch site with some amenities nearby. I just may campout in the boat :)

If you get your boat in the water next year I'll meet you and drop off a case of beer for the tips.

im not sure if you are aware of this or not........but.

the kootnays are closed to boating due to gordon Campbell's announcement that not enough taxes are being generated from your area.
the dams (arrow lakes upper or lower. visible from space) are not allowed to be boated on. this is due to the fact that Canada has sold the water to the united states.
this includes Christina lake. (US residents or tourists not included...only locals)

the residents of the kootnays are also not allowed to own pedistal seats in thier boats as back to back loungers are more expencive to own and maintain. this will ensure more tax dollars to the retiring politicians.

im surprised you have not been keeping up on the news.

further more....the residents of the kootnays are only allowed to own hockey skates, snow skis, snow boards or snow mobiles.
this includes the "boundray" area of castlegar. (this includes the familys and decendants of the dukabhors, as well as the bludoffs, even though the bludoffs have players on the KELOWNA ROCKETS HOCKEY TEAM and not the KOOTNAY ICE !)

WELOCME TO IBOATS :D:)

what you plan on doing is totally feasable.
lots of help here

cheers

Re: New to me Larson

But what if I leave a bunch of beer money behind. I'm sure that offsets the boating usage of the lake :)

Two swivel seats and a bench will work and are personal preference. I wanted the loungers for...lounging but will see if that was a good idea or not.

You can poke around on my thread as I rebuilt the frames and boxes on my loungers thinking I was going to save money. About a month a go I saw the perfect seats for my boat at a local boat shop that someone ordered and jammed out of for $500. D'oh

Re: New to me Larson

First off I must correct myself, the engine is a Mercury 850 with Thunderbolt ignition(not sure of the year). And your best bet for deeeep water is the Kootenay Lake, the average R-bow is 15-25 lbs but 30+ is not unheard of. There are lots of places to launch around the lake and lots of marinas for fuel and beer or food. Be careful on that lake its big and the weather can kick up some serious waves, like 4+ foot white caps... Sorry I'm still trying to figure out how to post pictures

I use a program called image resizer from Windows XP power tools and can be googled and downloaded. Once installed right click on any picture and save in 600x800.

Then click on the paper clip icon next to the happy face on the reply toolbar and point it at that picture or pctures and attach and you're done.

Maybe we'll all go for a ride then. Maybe North Beach will come too...

We can start our own Iboats outing on Kootenay lake as there are enough west coasters...

Re: New to me Larson

Hey how's it going Koot? Any progress? I also have a "new to me" old Larson Manta. Bought it last Spring for $1500 - pics on the "tri-hull club" page. Mine is a 140 hp I/O and the seats were replaced with pedestal seats and a couple cheap bench seats in the back. I'd love to do a full resto on mine but don't really have the time and space for it.

Re: New to me Larson

Its been awhile since I've been on here, no progress on the boat(I have no shop/cartport) but I'm starting to get it dug out of the four feet of snow thats around it. At the end of the snow season I was bending over to sweep the snow off the boat. Teddytedted nice boat, I'm thinking about painting mine a little darker blue with the 70's style super metal flake.
