I just purchased a 1986 Sunbird Fish and Ski with a Volvo 3.0 4Cyl and a 270 Outdrive.
The timing belt was replaced and the card rebuilt before I had purchased it and as far as I know the plugs were also changed but I will look at them tomorrow in day light.
The boat starts after giving the throttle a few advances and it will run fine at normal idle but if I give it the smallest amount of throttle it will bog down and sputter and backfire a little and if I do not advance the throttle up it will shut off. So again if I let it sit w/ out the prop enganged at it's notmal idle it is ok it is just a little gain in throttle is when it sputters and backfires some.
Could this be a timing issue or a carb adjustment issue or both?
I am new to outboards and I have searched and have seen alot of posts in regards to timing so that is the first thing that comes to mind.
I also have one more question about reverse. When I engage reverse the outdrive wants to lift up and the prop does turn but not as well as it should, someone told me it had to do with my tilt/trim is this a easy fix?
Thanks,
Tony
