Just got 2 ob motors both Evinrudes. 1 is a 100hp, 1971 and the other is a 1969, 115. The 115 has been in storage for 4 years. What should I do before I even try to start it? Where can I down load some free manuals for both. The 115 ran 4 years ago and looks to be in great shape! The 100hp will run and shut off in a mater of minutes. Note sombody did some wiring mods. recently. They may have burned up a part located under the big gear like thing on the 100hp motor. I need to see what is missing on this motor. I think the coil was taken off along with the black box on the prop side of the motor, it looks like they used a jaguar box in that location. Both motors were free to some extent. I plan on using one of these on a Procraft Bass boat. My non- fishing boat is a 35' Formula crusier with a 1000hp I/O. These little OBs are new to me, more of a test to see if I can get them in shape. So where do I start? Open to all advice, free sites etc.

Re: New to Out boards

I was going to say you need a thick wallet for those big ol' 100hp and 115 but since you have a 35ft. 1000 hp motor already, those "little" motors shouldn't be a problem. I don't know of anyplace you can get a free manual but someone might have a parts book they might be willing to send you that would help you i.d. the parts you need. I don't have any large motors so I'm not much help. I assure you it doesn't have a jauguar box on it but it's interesting you know what a jaguar box looks like!:D:D Sorry, I couldn't resist having a little fun with that one.
As far as the one that runs and shuts off pretty quick, try checking your fuel pump to see if it's pushing fuel out of the hose that comes from it. If it's pushing fuel out, it probably needs a good cleaning on the carbs.
Good luck! How about posting a pic of the 1000hp, I'd like to see it!

BTW, Crowleymarine.com has parts diagrams and such you could use to i.d. your unknown parts too, for free!
I think there's a couple of others, too.

If the 115 hasn't run in 4 years I'd pull the plugs and fog the cylinders to prevent "dry start-up" and turn it over by hand a few times to spread th oil. Then rebuilt carbs guarranty they are gunked up. Rebuild kits are cheap. then replace impeller in the water pump. Also that 69 is an electric shift which means that if you don't have the selector switch it will always be in forward gear.
