Re: New to PWC
What are you looking for? Stability, or instability? Do you want to go fast and do donuts, or do you want to tube and wake board? I fyou want stability, you need a 3 seater model. If you want the boys to mostly just zip around solo but ocassionally be able to ride with two, than get a two passenger model.
As to price, there are two markets in this country. Those that live on CA and FL and those that live everywhere else. You pay less in CA and especially FL IMO because most of them have been destroyed by salt water and you typically see much higher hours. Its not uncommon to see skis in FL with hundreds of hours on them and re-built motors, etc....
Up here in WI and MN, the market tends to be really strong and we can only use them 3 months out of the year.
That price seems very reasonable to me.
When you buy something that old you always have the risk of the the thing being shot or needing a lot of maintence. Getting one with low hours and good compression is two ways to lower the risk. IF you are fine with throwing the money away, then I say go for it. With two teens that might be inexperienced, they could trash it anyway
The two worst things you can do riding it are sucking up rocks and running it out of oil.
Also, MAKE SURE you check the prop clearance on any used ski in addition to the compression.
If its looks good and rides good and especially it its a one owner and you are fine with the price, go for it.
Here is another idea....buy new. If you buy this time of year, the deals are the best. You might be able to find a 2013 Kawasaki Ultra LX which would be a great ski for the family. Stable, but fun, great on fuel, 3 seater, 160 hp and you can find them now for $8,000 ($10,500 in the Spring). Or, find a STX 15F for a grand less. Same motor, but smaller hull. Faster and more nimble. Own either for 5 or 6 years and get 80% of your money back when you sell as long as you sel
l in the Spring.
