hi all, i hope someone could help me out.

I have a 3m inflatable dinghy with high pressure air floor. its outboard capacity is 10hp. Can I get away with a 15hp 2stroke?

Currently I have a 6hp 4stroke yamaha but its slow in choppy waters and with 2 people, at full throttle, its oly 9mph.

Should I get a 9.9hp 4 stroke, or get a 15hp 2stroke? are 2 stroke engines bad on gas mileage?

thanks for the help.

Nothing wrong with 2 stroke, yes they use more fuel and older ones tend to smoke, but how much/how far are you going to use a inflatable 3 m boat?

I may get yelled at for saying this but If you already owned the 15 I'd say use it and don't nail it. But agreed if you are purchasing a motor stay within rated hp limit.

As long as it’s not heavier than a 10 4 stroke I’d say. Which it won’t be.
All I would say is that I’ve had a 15hp on a 3m rib (not sib) that was rated for a 10. It was verging on the nothing short of dangerous side (and I like a fast boat). Really had to be careful head on to the wind. I ended up with a 10 mariner on it 2 stroke. Had an 8hp 2 stroke Yamaha on it too. Went almost as well.
