Morning....I'm new to this forum but a long time boater. We're selling our present boat and are looking at an older, 1982 Hilburn with twin Volvo QA 175's. I don't know anything about these engines having always had Crusader or Mercruiser's on our live-a-boards. I'm looking for opinions from people who have personal experience with this model like reliability, problems advantages. Both pro and con would be very helpful. Thanks very much for any replies.

Re: New to the forum

Hi. Noticed that no-one had replied :( so being curious, I researched Volvo AQ (not QA ) 175 online, and there is virtually nothing out there on these engines. I did see one thread where a poster commented that some parts are difficult to find. The lack of info would worry me.
I would be cautious - check local marinas to see if they have experience with these engines. I've noticed in my part of the world that as the older technicians retire, marinas are unable/unwilling to offer repair service to older, lesser known, engines/drives. No problems with Mercury/Mercruiser though :)

Another Retired Guy....Thanks for your reply from one retired guy to another. Got the AQ, QA mixup off the add. I'll also do some more research. Also over 1000 hours on these 1982 engines and that concerns me some.

I'll have to check out what a couple small block mercruisers would cost to replace the Volvo's if it comes down to that. Or newer Volvo's for that matter. We had a 22ft. Cuddy with a Volvo and were very happy with that engine. We're hoping to move down some, so to speak, as far as investment and maintainence buy selling our 1988 CC Catalina. These engines are in a 44' Hilburn houseboat and at this point in our boating lives, living here on the Mississippi River, think this would be a good move for us.

Anyway, thanks again for your input. Sure appreciate it.

Tom.

Ayuh,.... Is it a Chevy based motor, or 1 of Volvo's own,..??

Welcome Aboard,.... If it's been cared for, 1000 hours is barely broken in,...
