Im upgrading from an 18' bowrider to a 20'. I know a good amount about boats and trailers but I'm a novice when it comes to trailer brakes. This will be the first time in 5 boats of mine that'll I'll have trailer brakes. Take a look at the pic attached and tell me what I'll need to know out maintainance, repair and what to check over. I think these are surge brakes.

that looks like an atwood actuator.

cant tell if its disc or drums

you will want to make sure the master cylinder has fluid. if there is no fluid in the MC, then assume the whole system is shot

you will want to look at the lines, if they are rusted thru, then assume the whole system is shot

if its drums, a complete brake overhaul will cost you about $500 - new actuator, new lines, new loaded backing plates, new drums
if its disc, a complete brake overhaul will cost you about $650 - new actuator, new lines, new rotors, new calipers and brackets.
