New to trolling motors

I was given an old 35lb 12v great white Motor Guide brand trolling motor to put on my john boat but FL requires a boat be titled if any form of motor is installed. I am starting from scratch repairing and setting up a 14' stumpnocker 2, that will replace the john boat for fishing the salt flats. Is this too small and out of date to consider setting up for the new boat? It would run on just one battery. I would only need it just to slip into small inlets.

I wasn't sure if 35 lbs would be enough. I'll keep the boat light, not a lot of doodads. It being a 12v will save space and weight also.
