At my wits end! Had starboard trim cyl sieze up last season so just got around to installing 2 new SEI units. Installation was a breeze but I have the top rear fitting on starboard cyl leaking oil. I contacted SEI and they sent me a new one. I also bought a brand new hose and installed them both today. Still leaking. All 3 other fittings are tight and dry. I have no clue why this is happening. I did not over tighten it, nor is it not tight enough. And also, now I look in the pump resevoir and I see milk where it was good lean oil before. Sure hate to give up on this and take it in to the $$$ mechanic, but what the heck is going on? I see that SEI stuff is Chinese, could that be the issue?

If the original cylinder wasn't leaking at the connection point, why not gut one of the new ones and put it in the old outer housing (which you know doesn't leak)?

Just a thought...

Thanks Chris! Not a bad thought. But I'm gonna try to get my $ back for this defective POS. I should have just had the original Merc cylinder rebuilt, I'm not sure if I want to tackle that job, lots of little parts to lose, and with my luck... Seems too intimidating to me, to you guys who do this all the time it's probably a piece of cake. Just stumped that 2 new cyls in a row are leakers. I am pretty much done buying Chinese junk for the old Sea Ray.

Oh, I read an old post of someone said they tried teflon tape. Good or bad idea?

One more Q, if I have one rebuilt, is it a good idea to rebuild the other one too, even though it still works fine?
