Like most older boats, it was time to replace the trim sender as the wires were shot. So I had that done. The mechanic said to play with the adjustment limits and my trim should be good to go. Well, trim up didn't work even when I opened up that limit all the way. So I just let it go, no trim up. Trim down working just fine.

Well, after having the parts and wires installed, plus an entire season of just not having trim up (and the trailer button giving me the fits), I was just dealing with what I had. LOW and BEHOLD -- On the last trip of 2018, the damn trim up started working. For the last 3 days of the last trip of the year. Oh, rejoice. My outdrive is safe and I am smiling.

April 2019. Trim up works again. Win!

May 2019. Trim up works for 2 days and then stops working. Still not working. Puzzled?

Are there any troubleshooting ideas that you can share? Ground wires to check? A fuse in the system? Why does this thing work sometimes and not others? It works when it wants to. Hmmm?

Ideas? Things I can check before or during my next trip (this weekend)?

It sure is nice when it works.

I hope you mean the Trim Limit switch was replaced. The Trim Sender has nothing to with whether the trim up works or not.

You have some chewed up wires or flaky connectors in the trim circuit. Hook up a meter on Ohms scale up between the limit switch and where it breaks the trim up circuit and shake the crap out of the wires.

Don't try to run the trim, no voltage needed. Before you start, run the trim all the way down, the limit switch should be closed. when the meter is hooked up it should read zero. The meter will be close to zero when the circuit is making contact and open when it's not.

You'll have to look at the wiring diagram for colors, don't have one in front of me.

EDIT - Added more stuff.

Ayuh,.... There's a loose or corroded connection, probably around the pump, or where the limit switch ties into the harness at the transom,.....
