I've been browsing for a few months stealing great ideas and advice from everyone and am now in the thick of it. I have my decks ripped out and have scoped out a couple areas for new storage compartments. First one will be mid boat, forward of the two front pedestals. As I found after removing the deck, there is not much for support here. Plan is to add two alum angle iron pieces across (red lines) for additional support and then add a lid over them.
Question is, what type of material can I use along the bottom and sides to roughly frame the box? The other compartments have what looks like thin plastic which has been carpeted. I could use 1/8 plywood with spar urethane but not sure if that is the best (will likely be damp). I will keep the base 1/2 or so off the floor to allow for water passage. Is there some type of plastic reasonably priced a guy can get from home depot? Don't really have the proper tools to cut aluminum (other than a side grinder).
Next question- wood is easy for me - can I use 3/4 plywood (sealed and carpeted) for the compartment lid (or does a guy risk warp issues)? All the factory lids are aluminum... not sure what it would cost to get some made in town but guessing it is not cheap. I'm in BC Canada so don't have the selection that is available to the south. Any opinions appreciated and once I start making some real progress I'll start a build thread for those looking for more info on the boat.

Thanks gents!

I would go with a epoxy covered ply wood then a layer of 1708 with a wood lid as they are cheap and easy to replace should you need to.

I needed to make a custom sized hatch here recently , I found some "aluminum Z bar" online to make mine out of . Similar to what the stock ones are made of . Check out the last couple of posts .

Use this rather than angle iron, that way you can make a nice custom "lid" for it to match the rest of ur boat
