Its a 1955 Alumacraft M14, number 311 out of 408 total. The motor is a 1961 Mercury 400 45hp and works good.

Really cool boat and really really cool old motor. I'd love to see that thing cruising around. Why the heck is the steering from the back seat?

Cool little boat. Are you going to restore it or just use it as is? It looks like you could restore it pretty easy. Congrats on your find!

Welcome aboard iboats.
Congratulations on the boat. You got yourself a real vintage and unique find there. I wondered about the rear steering also.

Oh man!!! That is a fabulous find! What a beautiful classic that will be with not much work at all. A little red and white accent paint, maybe polish the bow deck up nice and shiny and shoot on some clear paint and she will be a real eye catcher.

I would be tempted to move the steering and controls to the front seat, even though it appears that they were always in the rear. But that is up to you.

Steering in the rear:

It wasn't until 56 or 57 that outboards were available with electric start. So up until then it was convenient if the driver was closer to the motor so that they could pull start the motor and then just turn around and sit down to drive. I just picked up this tidbit this week.

WOW. That is a beautiful old sweety. With a pull start the rear steer looks much more convenient. Almost like steering an old biplane or limousine. Cool find, congratulations.

Thanks guys! I can't wait to get it all cleaned and polished up. The motor does run and I'm going to take her out on Saturday to see how she runs. The trailer is an Alumacraft trailer too which is pretty cool.

Yeah, I love the look of those old motors-- especially Mercurys. Works of art.
