I bought a old 15 ft boat that was missing the windshield. I would like to get it replaced but can't find anywhere that does it beside a custom fit windshield that will cost me 5 time what I paid for the boat. Any suggestions? I can't imagine it to be too hard to build one myself but where do you find parts?

These pics may not be of the best angle but the boat is in storage right now and very hard to take additional pics.

Re: New windshield replacement

If you want to try building your own, look at the home stores as they have aluminum stock and plexy. I found a Sears hardware store had common aluminum storm window stock for making custom windows. Might come in handy.

The basic idea is to cut some cardboard and fit together the size windshield you want. Then cut the aluminim L and U channels to size, rivit with aluminum rivits and attach the plexy by using silicone adhesive (not caulk) or aluminum screws through the frame into the plexy.

Parts are rather inexpensive. Planning is the key.

By the way, that is a great looking boat. You are going to have a blast. Small boats are just too much fun!

When you decide how big to make the windshield, I suggest you make it high enough that you are looking through it, and not over it. (I know that might sound obvious, but a lot of boats have too short windshields) A nice tall windshield will go a long way toward making a nice outting more pleasurable.
