Re: New Year's Day Dinner Traditions

we did the BEpea's thing. and pork chops, garlic mashed taters, corn on the cob. to be honest, we don't eat many homecooked meals, so i was just glad to have a holiday- lol

my mother would've had some kind of superstitious meal ready, i'm sure. but they're off running the road on vacation as usual. they deserve it too. i'm enjoying just having a day off. :D

heres a new years classic that goes well with the football games, you take a pork shoulder, and simmer it kraut for a few hours, and when it all falls apart, toss some nathans hot dogs in there along with some bratwurst and some roasted garlic rough mash taters ( NOT whipped to creamy perfection, these are rustic, skin on, hearty peasant fare

other side of town is a bakery that caters to the working man, 1.30 a dozen for rolls that come hot out of the oven, scoop em, bag em, toss a few coins and go, lemme tell ya, nice fat brat in a still warm roll, pulled pork all thru the kraut, or just make a pork sammich if yer agin eatin innards, its all good, just eat

my pious aunt came to visit one year, with the above feast waiting to be consumed, and I was STARVING, lol, the smells that all that stuff gives off is heaven, and she wanted me to say grace ...

Good Bread

Good Meat

Good God

LETS EAT!!!!

I never got asked again!

:D :D :D :D :D :D

Scalloped corn is just like pat cambell said. she takes one can cream corn, one can whole corn, some garlic onions salt pepper, two eggs about a half a can of milk.mix all together then she takes half soda crackers and half ritz crackers and crushes them all together. then lays out layers corn mix, cracker mix, a few slices of butter more corn mix, cracker mix, butter usually three layers ending with cracker mix and butter, bake for about an hour at 350. till bubbling and brown. great stuff!
