hey guys first post here, I've got a 94 sprint with a johnson outboard. I'm trying to take off the lower unit. Ive taken out the 5 bolts but its got some resistance still. Am I supposed to take out any of the screws as well? I know I should not be jacking with stuff I don't know about but I'm going to anyway. I'm just trying to check the water pump as I was told it should be changed every couple of years. Any help on this? Also, what else should I do to the boat to make sure its lake ready as I'm not sure about the maintnance history. Thanks!

Re: Newb Idiot question

We'll assume the motor is about the same age as the boat. There are the 4 bolts on the side, the large center bolt and one under the trim tab. You'll also have to disconnect the shift.

1994 48 HP then.
I think the shift rod is disconnected under the bottom carb.
