I own a 1985 Force 85. If I know my impeller is good, is it normal for water to be spitting from the relief holes at idle, yet stop when at speed?

When running my engine on earmuffs It spits water at about 50/50 rate from relief holes and the exhaust snout. When I am under way I assume it is now being vented from the exhaust snout strictly? I just dont see any water from the two large relief holes when at speed. Normal?

The relief holes are for idle and low speed only. At high speed, a low pressure area is formed behind the snout and all of the exhaust and water will go out the bigger hole as fluids take the path of least resistance.

Also, at idle, with the boat settled in the water, the leg is full of water, the exhaust and spray will come out the relief holes.

When at speed, the leg will be empty except for the cooling water exiting the powerhead.
