I have a Generation II 14 ft. flat bottom boat that does not have oarlock sockets. I want to install a set for infrequent uses of oars.

Where do I locate the sockets and at what angle to the side of the boat?

Thanks,

David.

Re: NewBe question

You can get the sockets here on iboats. I'm not sure about the angle. Maybe others will know.. If you don't get an answer by tomorrow, bump up your post to the top again by replying to your own post in the "Post a reply" box. Just put "Anyone" in the reply..

Sockets

Anyone know the answer to this... Got to be a canoe guy out there somewhere that can shed some light on this.

Re: NewBe question

My sled came with oar locks welded on (holes for oar locks) Anyway I just went out and looked and they pretty much follow the same contour as the sides of the boat. After you get them I'd say sit in the boat and use C clamps to hold them on and go through the motions of rowing. And put them where it is comfortable for you. Like rickdb1boat said mabe someone will come in with better answers. Interesting question

Let us know what you do

Re: NewBe question

EvinBoater. Not sure what you mean when you talk about angle. Do you mean how far in front or behind the seat they should be mounted, or what angle the actual lock hole should be installed relative to the boat? The mount should be perpendicular to the keel of the boat. If you are planning only on using these oars for crossing a lake or something like that, you should mount the locks about 12" from the seat toward the aft. A second set of locks could be installed forward of the seat for Galloway style rowing. Hope this helps. :)

Re: NewBe question

Thanks for the answers. Yes, I meant the angle of the oarlock sockets in relation to the angle of the side. Perpendicular to the bottom, to the sides, etc.

Thanks again.

Now to put in a carb kit and impeller.

David.

Re: NewBe question

Evinboater – when your oars are in place to be used, the oars and oarlocks are articulate so the mounting angle is not as critical as you may be thinking. Typically, verticle. Just be sure they are mounted rigidly.
