I cut out a few areas of rotten deck in my 1989 Maxum and am replacing with 1/2" exterior grade plywood, wetted out with epoxy. The rest of the deck is fairly solid, but the top layer (under the carpet I am going to reuse) of what looks like chop strand resin is heavily abrated and UV weathered to the point that the wood under it needs more protection. My question is:

Once the new plywood is epoxyed in, what oz. of fiberglass cloth should i cover it with? I then want to add one or two ? layers of cloth over the entire floor and wet out with epoxy before putting the carpet back down, to make a stronger more water tight deck. What oz. or how many layers of fiberglass cloth should I use? Thanks so much.

Temporary patches maybe fine in some cases. Did you do any under deck investigation to ensure the stringers and bulkheads in your boat were ok? The soft spots in the deck can be an indication of problems below, NOT ALWAYS, but sometimes. ANY WHOOOOO... As you your question about cloth. #1 you Don't have to use epoxy. Polyester resin is fine but if you have already used the epoxy that is ok to. Just understand that if you ever want to use gelcoat in the futre it will not adhere to the epoxy. As far as cloth for the epoxy i would think one layer of 8.5 oz E-Glass would suffice.
