Hi, thanks in advance for your responses. I have a new-to-me 1987 Suzuki DT-25. I ran it for about an hour last season and have a handful of questions:
1. It appears to exhaust through the prop once above idle speed Is this right?
2. Virtually no water except a drop comes through the tell tale hole. Should there be a steady stream?
3. After running wide open for a few minutes, water spits out through the exhaust ports above the waterline. This water is hot to the touch. Is this supposed to spit out here or is this a symptom that the system isn't working right?
4. After running wide open for a few minutes, I removed the cover and found the head wasn't overly hot to the touch. Does this mean that there is sufficient cooling?
Today, I installed a replacement water pump kit (impeller, backing plate, gasket) and inspected the water tube. I assumed that the impeller was shot, but the old one looked good. After reassembly, I put her in the lake and found no improvement over last season. Of course, the water was quite cold at 41 degrees, but Am I risking overheating & damaging the engine when the water warms up?
I didn't try to blow out the tell tale hole but can hook up a compressor and use air on it if it's supposed to have a steady stream. Any tips & answers to the questions? Thanks again for any suggestions you might have.
