Poly and epoxy are two types of resin. More often than not, they are used with fiberglass (either cloth or what's called mat). Resin by itself isn't too "strong" and neither is fiberglass. Together, applied correctly, they can be VERY STRONG!

Read more grasshopper! Read more! There are no stupid questions out there, but try reading as many resto threads as possible... You'll find your questions answered in them...

Yes, people have moved consoles from sides to the center, but it requires understanding resin, cloth, mat and other things found in existing threads.

Be careful though... IT'S ADDICTIVE!

Read, enjoy, learn and then TEAR INTO YOUR PROJECT!!!

I took a 17' cuddy cabin sawed off the roof and redid the floor to my choice and now I have a great casting deck up front and a place to shoot carp from with my bow. I cut a console out of an old bowrider and fibed it in. works great.Dont be afraid to ask questions, everybody here loves to give advice.

Also remember that usually when moving the console you need longer control cables/wires/etc for everything depending on how they are routed now. All avaliable but more costs to consider when deciding to tackle the project. Plus the helm you have now may not work without MAJOR modifications, yes they can be done but it takes a bit of knowledge on fiberglass layup and construction. If it were me I would start on some other projects to get my feet wet before taking on the helm relocation. Your boat was originally put togather with poly resin so most will stick with that because of compatibility/cost reasons. Along with alot of excellent threads here there are also some very good books on boat building techniques, may be worth a read along with threads here. Good luck on your project.

Thanks for the advise and help I jumped in and got my feet wet today i removed the deck took out foam also removed the rotten stringers. I figured if I am going to move the steering console now would be the time to do it I am currently looking for pictures of how the cables and wires were routed through the floor
