2006 crownline 200 ls with 5.0L mercruiser
engine serial OW355448
So I bought my boat at the end of the year last year, only got to run it a little and then had it winterized. All fluids have been changed.
What needs to be checked to begin the season? Just want to make sure I don't miss anything.

I see a lot of different posts about what spark plug and what gap, whats right? I don't have a paper manual but I downloaded one online. I am looking at it but people say they have changed some things.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think that you just need to put it in the water and use the boat.

Maybe check the oil level and stuff like that first. Run it on the muffs, if you would like before you launch it, just to be sure the engine works OK and any antifreeze is run out of the cooling system.

Do you have any idea about the previous maintenance work done to the boat before you bought it? Was the drive ever pulled, bellows inspected, alignment checked, coupler splines greased, and other normal yearly drive maintenance? There is a lot more to boat maintenance than changing the oil and doing a tuneup.

No idea what has been checked before. I bought used from a dealer. No history.

Re: Newbie needs advice 2006 5.0L mercruiser

I have the same boat only older and with a 350 but pretty much the same. If it were me I would at a minimum replace the waterpump impeller(better to get the kit with all the gaskets/o-rings etc.) while it was that far apart i would also want the u-joints, gimbal bearing, and bellows inspected. I usually do the waterpump every year, every other at a maximum, seems like cheap insurance to me. Keep boat engine cooled properly it will last a long time, over heat one take a good five years off of it(depending on how hot). Plus we get pretty cold winters here and the rubber impeller seems like it takes a set a bit quicker than a more mild climate. Im assuming the gear lube in the drive was included in the fluid change if not get that done as well(they/you will probably end up draining it to do the drive work anyway, and for the price I would just use new.

I see the impeller kits. So I just match drive type and serial range? Is this everything that is needed?

Going to grab the serial and make sure I order the correct parts. I'm sure I can find a guide on here to do it myself. What else should I check while i'm in there?

Re: Newbie needs advice 2006 5.0L mercruiser

I did check them out...that's how I decided to change the impeller.

Transom serial : 0W442656
Drive Serial: 1A232685

There was also a sticker on there says Alpha 2 1.62 Ratio C with a number 2CL78818 under it.

So this mean Alpha I gen II and ratio C is the gear ratio?

Is this the kit?

'n, Yes, that's the kit...

It is the right kit, however, you will notice it doesn't have the face seal, nor the installation tool in that kit like the OEM kit does. You have to order it separately.
It also appears with that drive serial number that it's a much newer drive than the engine. Plus, it's an OEM drive, not an aftermarket replacement.
Have you downloaded the instructions for changing the impeller? http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=387864

Yes, I have the instructions. I thought it was newer, just because I still has stickers on it with barcodes. Can you tell the year? Maybe it is new enough to not need replacing? Is this the correct gear ration for the size engine? (5.0L)

Prop is me3x14.5x19rb

You would be better off using Mercruiser part number 47- 43026Q06 for the reasons Don mentioned + you'll have a much better peace of mind knowing that the impeller if flowing the correct amount of water through your engine versus using an aftermarket kit in my opinion of course.:)

It appears your drive was replaced/invoiced to a dealer sometime around 04/18/2008 as the manufacture Date of the drive was on 04/16/2008.

Yes the gear ratio is the same as your old stern drive. Your old drive was drive serial number 0W587456 Model number 5121300TS MERCRUISER ALPHA 1.62:1.

Good luck.:)

I will get the oem kit then. I am also looking into a tune up. Any problems with getting the stuff from napa? I am still unsure of the plugs, I will just pull one and see what is in there.

Manual i have shows

Spark Plug Type AC Platinum (AC 41-932)
Spark Plug Gap 0.060 in.

Has this changed?

i believe the plug has superceeded to the -993 ac plug now, gap is the same

do not go by what is in the engine, just because the plug is in the motor does not mean it is the right one

NAPA has sierra brand parts and ac plugs, they should have the supercession chain and get you the proper plug based on the engine serial number

Ok, I wasn't sure if I should trust Napa in selling me the correct parts. I guess they will have a better chance than me though!

Yes it has changed.

1) MerCruiser 4.3L, 5.0L, and 5.7L carbureted engines are shipped new with platinum AC 41-932 (P/N 33-884019) spark plugs, soon to be superseded by AC 41-993 (P/N 33-884019001).

2) The recommended service replacement spark plugs for these engines are non-platinum AC MR43LTS (P/N 33-884019) or NGK BPR6EFS (P/N 33-816336).

3) MerCruiser carbureted engines require a spark plug gap of 1.14 mm (0.045 in.).

4) Mercury platinum spark plugs have a gap setting of 1.5 mm (0.060 in.). To reduce the possibility of installing the platinum spark plugs with the incorrect spark plug gap, the non-platinum spark plug is the recommended service replacement.

5) The use of AC 41-932 (P/N 33-884019) or AC 41-993 (P/N 33-884019001) platinum spark plugs in a MerCruiser 4.3L, 5.0L, or 5.7L carbureted engine is acceptable if the spark plug gap is set at 1.14 mm (0.045 in.)
