I have a 1988 25HP Evinrude seems to bog down when at full throttle. Starts missing like it is starving for fuel I have new fuel tank, line and primer ball. I cleaned out screen in fuel pump was very dirty. Fired engine up today on ear muffs and i noticed that the water coming from water pump was spitting not streaming and there was a rattling noise in lower unit about halfway down the shaft. engine seemed hot. ? if impeller is bad that would cause engine to bog down right?

Yes, an overheated engine will bog down when it gets to hot. If you are not getting a solid stream out of the tell-tale pull the lower unit and check the water pump.

Well, if the impeller is bad or not working at all, the motor will be effected. Usually the motor will overheat in short order.

Of ALL the parts of a motor...the MOST important part is the water pump impeller.

"I cleaned out screen in fuel pump was very dirty." clean and rebuild carbs, some of that crap got thru.

"i noticed that the water coming from water pump was spitting not streaming" replace impeller, and blow out water tube.
