I have a 2002 25' Monterey bow rider 7400 lb dry wt with a single VP 8.1 Gi-b 375 HP engine, DPSM outdrive with 1.78 ratio (VP#3868912). Boat currently has Duoprop F8 set 3851498 stainless props. Engine manual lists optimum operating range at 4200-4600 rpm. In-dash tach says it's at 4200 rpm at WOT, trimmed, "half" loaded, running 47 mph. We like to ski and cruise, but very difficult to pull my 200 lb carcass out of the water on one ski with this heavy boat (my abilities set aside). Two skiis are no problem. Wife (160 lb) drags more than I'd like getting up on slalom. If I change to a set of F7s, which theoretically increases RPM's by 200-250, will it be a noticeable difference in:
1) getting a skier out of the water
2) top end speed
3) RPM required for plane?
Should I consider dropping to set of F6s?
My engine is stock from a performance standpoint. I've had high performance engine builders tell me an 8.1 will run fine at 5000 rpm, outside the recommended range. I just sunk a ton on a total engine rebuild. Had a broken piston ring. Put in hypereutectic pistons, but not forged.
Any help appreciated.
