sounds like a daft question, but how would I go about draining the oil from my Penta AQ205 whilst it still in the boat? naturally, I can't get underneath the engine with a drain tub, and I don't want oil in my bilge for the pump to pump out into the sea!

curiously, there's nothing in the service manual... sorry if it's a silly question!

thanks in advance.

Out the dipstick tube with a pump.

Yup, they sell quicksilver oil pumps with attachments that screw onto the dipstick and you pump the oil out from above. Make sure you bring the oil up to temperature for about 10 minutes and allow it to settle for a good 5 minutes before pumping out.

Piece of cake! Also it helps to leave the new oil in the sun and get as warm as possible so it flows back in the engine and settles easier to avoid reading the oil level too low and overfilling when you check the dipstick when refilling.

I stop about a half quart lower than what the engine calls for and check level every 10 minutes or so to make sure you get the right amount in.
