I am looking to buy a 1989 Glastron Sierra 17 with an O/B 75 Mariner of the same year. What should I be looking at before rooling off the lot with it. How many hours does that engine last? Is an '89 Mariner 75 too old to last any longer? The pictures look good but I have not seen it yet in person. Thanks for any feedback..

Re: Newbie question on first boat?

Good outboard. My 1979 Johnson runs as strong as new. It really depends on the care and maintenance. The mariner is good if cared for. I would ask about the impellar (when and how often changed), the lower unit oil, a compression check is nice, condition of the boat floor but... best of all is a water test.

Bob
