Hello all:

New to the boating world, I bought a 18 ft 1972 cobia cuddy cruise from a freind, he adv the engine was going to need to be upgraded. I know zippo, i have no idea how to determine how much hp i will need. Boat is mainly for recreational activities, towign my kids tubing & such. Also looking for any suggestions on trying to find a decent used motor shop, what type of $$ im looking at etc.I live in the south shore of massachusetts. I spent about and hour this am looking for info on my boat couldnt locate anything.

What motor does it have now. Look at it and it should have a name or number on it somewhere.

Is the motor inside the boat or hanging off the back of the boat.

It has a 55 yamaha outboard motor, which is fine with me and my 2 kids, but put another adult on 10-15 mph max, canoes pass me :)

The only Cobia 18 footer i see listed was called a Centaur, and it was rated for 140 hp. Now it's simple, get as much hp as you can afford up to that.
