I have a 1986 Conroy Z-17 with a 1985 Johnson 115 OB. I just got done replacing the steering cable (Teleflex single cable rack and pinion) and when I took the boat out it pulls to the right at high speeds not a ton but enough that if you let go of the wheel it would really crank. It does not seem to pull at low speeds or it is not noticeable.

Everything that should be greased is and everthing that shouldn't isn't or so I think. My questions are several: I didn't really do any line up with the steering wheel and I can't imagine how this system could be affected by that but could it? Are there any adjustments to be made here?

Logic tells me that this is a result of torque and there must be some adjustment on the motor, I do see one thing (I don't know what its called) that is a single small fin rear of the motor with some degress embossed on it, should I adjust this thing? Or is this one of those thats how it works you dummy and deal with it things?

Adjust that fin to help you steer. The fin is also
a anti corrosion anode so if it is deteriorated
it may need replacing to be effective. There may also be a tensioner where the motor pivots that can be tightened to help fight the torque steer problem

Move the trailing egde of the trim tab(that's what it's called ;) ) to the right a little at a time. But you should be trimming up until the steering torque is evened out.

Hi coolhandl.
The small fin is the trim tab.Try turning it one degree at a time to the right and test.Move as much as needed to stop the pull.Should help.
