i have a 12 ft alum v hull with 3 benches. the front and rear had swivel seats mounted right to them but i had to build a new rear seat and i am thinking of adding a 7" pedistal right to the bench of the rear seat. like some of u have done. Is this going to make my boat unstable?? What is everyones opinion.....
Thanks
Rob

Wow, some people did that huh?

I tried that with a 14' alum. Lowe I had. I was amazed at how unstable it made the boat with just a few extra (6 IIRC) inches of seat height. It does have a LOT of deadrise for a small boat though, might be OK with a flatter hull.

Anyway, put the boat in and didn't stay at the lake for 15 minutes, it felt that bad. Took it back off when I got home.

YMMV

I'd love to hear others experience doing this.

The higher you go with weight the more it destablizes the boat so yes that will make it more unstable.

If you are on water that isn't real busy you might be okay but if you are on a lake with alot of trafic and wakes it might be a little scary.

I started out in a 12'er and it was super tippy anyhow, I can't imagine doing something to make it worse.

Try a substitue first. Go out with something made up temporarily, to the height you like, like maybe a stack of cut wood 2"x8"x12". If 8" tall is too unstable, take one or two off the stack, etc. Then you'd know what height is okay for your conditions.
