1979 85 hp johnson with PTT
binacle mount shifter with dash mounted key switch, which is pretty worn out and sloppy.

I can easily get a newer binacle mount OMC shifter WITHOUT the built in key switch and swap it in.

I have seen the newer ones I believe from 1996 and up which have the key switch on the binacle mount with a kill switch integrated in to it.

my question is the newer box with the built in key switch compatible with my older engine?
does the shifter and throttle cables move in the same direction?

as far as the wiring I think I can rewire it to function like my current system with typical start, push to choke, stop, kill switch, PTT, NSS and horn initiallize and overheat. right?

thanks

TTT
I searched the forums and found some good info but still not convinced the newer binnacle with the built in key switch will work
anyone else done this?

purchased a newer style OMC binnacle mount control box, not with the intergral key. Uses the same cables, has the same wiring for the neutral safety switch and the power trim. easy swap. You may have to redrill the dash to mount it but over all way better than my old Morse box.
