I have a 1990 Evinrude 150 XP model # E150STLESB (90 degree V-6) that has a blown powerhead. A buddy of mine got me a sweet deal on a new 2002 150 h.p. 60 degree V-6 fully dressed. The only numbers I can find on the new motor is 0581 12C1B2. This number was stamped (not cast) on a machined section of the block. My biggest problem is the new powerhead will not bolt up to the existing exhaust hsg. adapter.
Do I need to find a newer motor w/ a blown powerhead? if so what years will work? Or can I change the adapter housing to a 60 degree version?? Part numbers would be great since my dealer hasn't a clue. Last question is how do I know if the 1990 motor is a 20" or 25"shaft......Thanks

True XP's are 20" motors.

The list of what will work from your XP is shorter than what wont. The gearcase, with some changes to the driveshaft and installing a 60 degree shift shaft will work on a 60 degree midsection. Everything else is different.

Any 60 degree carb'd mid section will work. You also need the pans and hood.

I would try Jack at Superior Marine at 800-338-9281. He's on the road today but this number has his cell number on the recording. Tell him what you are getting (a dressed carb'd 60 degree powerhead) and you need the rest. Today would be a good day to call. He's going to buy some motors and he might find what you need. He probably already has it anyway but it'd be good to let him know.

Tell him Dale told you to call.
