Re: NFL - Week 14
Been watching Chicago for years. Just seems the Bears organization has no understanding of "offense". Martz was a good try, but his approach required many more talented players on offense than the Bears have had in a couple of decades. They've hired some decent offensive players (Cutler, Marshall, et al) but have never envisioned an effective long-term offensive scheme. In the present-day NFL, the running game is less than half of an effective offense.
Devin Hester as a wide?? Come on now. That experiment would have ended years ago if the team really understood what "wide receiver" is all about. Under any good offensive coach, Hester would have remained on special teams and they would have been drafting wideouts.
Chicago needs to take a look at the teams that are successful year after year and compare those offenses with their own. Brady, Brees, Rodgers, both Mannings, et al, they all work in systems that respect offense as an equal partner with defense in a winning system. The last team to win a Super Bowl on defense alone was the 2000 Ravens.
In today's game, a good offense is the best defense.
