Johnson....it's always good to run the recommended plug. Yours is a Chanpion QL77jC4 gapped at .030. But if you gap it at .040, it will show better idle and not affect top end.

Good Boating and keep us posted. Thanks.

PS...I got a 86' 90hp. Same thing 'cept fer carbs.

QL82C is a widely excepted plug now for that engine as well, by Champion, gapped as stated above.

Walleyehed is correct on the QL82C plug for your motor. They changed a lot of the plug numbers back in '95 or '96. You must be using a very old plug chart or the original book.

Well guys...I looked at the latest parts locator disc and this is what I came up with.

For 1986 Models....
Models 110MLCDC and 110TLCDC: QL77JC4 or QL16V.

Models 110TLCDF: UL77V.

Don't have the P&A book in front of me. I'll take a look today.

P&A Book recommends either plug....QL77JC4 or the QL82C.

I read somewhere that Johnson designed their engines with Champion in mind.

I was never happy with NGK in my dirtbikes, if they foul out the are done. If you leave them in have some spares on hand

Hey Dritman,

I double that! My Yamaha 2 cycle dirt bike ate NGK plugs. Sometimes they only lasted an afternoon of riding. The Champion plugs lasted for weeks on end. I think the NGK plugs would develop a hairline crack in the ceramic and short out. I was using the specified plug, and it looked OK, but it would lose the spark.

Mark.

NGK=NoGood Krap.

Worked for just one dealer that used NGKs religiously. Seemed okay. Otherwise I prefer Champion if given the choice of either-or. Generally I like whatever brand is appropriate for the motor. NGKs on Japaneese OBs, Champions on American OBs, ACs on GMs, Autolites on Fords.

And Splitfires on anything you want to go Poof.
